Flower Guard Books

Welcome to the online home of work created by Andi Dawson. Here you’ll find a world of colour and imagination, where cute characters fill the page and show off the wonderful diversity of everyday life.

Andi’s illustrations are carefully created to engage even the youngest viewer . Her writing focuses on friendship, problem solving and fun and the majority of her books are written in rhyme to encourage a love of language and promote early reading for pleasure.

Hardly ever a spare moment!

It’s been a while since I’ve written anything for WordPress and the simple reason is, I’ve been too busy.

As well as writing and illustrating my latest book AAAAALPACAS! I have been…
• researching endangered species with help from the WWF
• planning two other stories
• waiting for responses from a publishing house and literary agent
• delivering Craft and Storytime Workshops
• preparing for my Flower Guard Books’ appearance at the East Riding Festival of Words
• prepping for the Arts Awards Discover and Explore sessions in schools and libraries
• getting ready for a charity function to raise money for Yorkshire Cancer Research
• editing previously privately commissioned Christmas books for general release
• working in my day job as a higher level teaching assistant in a primary school.

Surrounding all this work activity is my wonderful family life. I’m the other half to my partner and together we are parents to our darling kiddies and pets. We have lazy days in, busy days out, camping trips, time with grandparents and a great grandparent, dog walks, visits to the library, lunches out at favourite cafés, meals around our dining table with quizzes, TV time and much, much more.

As busy as my life is, I wouldn’t have it any other way. I’m doing exactly what I’ve dreamed of doing for years and I consider myself to be very lucky that children, other than my own, read my books.

I don’t really have time to write much else, but I hope that this has given you some insight into my reason for not writing my blog as often as I should.

Now, I’m sure there’s something else on my list of things to do. Oh yes, sleep!
