Flower Guard Books

Welcome to the online home of work created by Andi Dawson. Here you’ll find a world of colour and imagination, where cute characters fill the page and show off the wonderful diversity of everyday life.

Andi’s illustrations are carefully created to engage even the youngest viewer . Her writing focuses on friendship, problem solving and fun and the majority of her books are written in rhyme to encourage a love of language and promote early reading for pleasure.

A previous existence.

Many years ago when my ten year old was just a nipper, a friend and I dabbled in the odd bit of craft. Nothing too serious, just a craft fair here and there, we could totally handle it. Then, before we knew it, we were addicted and so we created a little thing called Small Frog. We posted the things we made online for people to buy and sold to family and friends as well.

Then things went a little bit pear-shaped in my personal life, and by pear-shaped I mean massively so, bigger than the one in James and the Giant Peach. We left Belfast, moved to the sleepy, seaside town of Hornsea and Small Frog dwindled away. (NB there is still a Small Frog Facebook page out there though so maybe check it out.)

I adored creating things to sell to others, but life got busy and a full-time job beckoned, so crafting was reserved for entertaining my little one and making cards for family occasions. After my second little one was born, my life got busier, but my confidence to publish my children’s stories began to increase and before I knew it my evenings were filled with writing and illustrating. My children’s books were published and I started needing to make crafts again in order to deliver my new venture, providing Storytime and Craft workshops to children in schools, museums and libraries in East Yorkshire. Very exciting times!

Then a close friend of mine asked me if I would be able to have a stall at her Yorkshire Cancer Research event and I couldn’t resist. The itch to have go at creating to sell came back and I used a brand new style that I’d been working on to make puntastic Christmas cards.

And here they are…

…my puntastic, fingerprint art, Christmas cards! I even have some Christmas postcard versions available too!

All of these cute little cards are now on my Etsy page and each one will be made using my very own fingerprint! This, of course, means I can no long go into the life of crime I had planned, as my fingerprints will be all over the place if the cards sell.

The craft bug is back and I hope this time it’s back for good! I suppose that all depends on whether you guys like them enough to buy. What do you think?
