Welcome to Flower Guard Books.
I’m Andi Dawson and this is trickier than I thought it would be. I’m a very busy working mom of three and being an author, illustrator, artist and poet is something I do on the side, so please don’t blame me if this website isn’t updated as often as you think it should be.
Quite honestly, I’m amazed I’ve found the time to do this first bit, so…

Hi, I’m Andi – I’ve been creating for as long as I can remember, from five-line stories in primary school to seeing my dream of being published come true. These days, I write and illustrate children’s books all about friendship, problem-solving, and hope. My bright, colourful style brings to life a world full of diverse characters and cute animals, making my books accessible and fun for everyone – from preschoolers to confident readers.
With over 30 titles published, I’ve also been featured in the beloved Story Teller Magazine revival, and I regularly donate artwork to charity auctions supporting causes close to my heart, including Epilepsy UK and school development projects in Botswana.
Beyond children’s books, I’ve published poetry collections for adults, written lyrics, and created custom artworks combining words and visuals. I’m a self-taught illustrator and proudly (if a little awkwardly) call myself an artist. I work in everything from watercolours and acrylics to digital media, and I especially love making quirky, eco-friendly greeting cards with sugar googly eyes – yes, they’re 100% recyclable!
My kids are my world and my inspiration. I work in education by day – a job that lets me spend every school holiday with them – and create by night. Life can be messy as we’re a neurospicy family, but that’s what keeps us on our toes and helps my creativity flow.
Now I’m stepping into the world of websites – it feels a bit more “professional” (whatever that means) and hopefully a fun new way to connect. I’ll probably get a few things wrong, but I’ll give it my best shot. If you’d like to follow along, I’d love the company… just bring snacks!
