Flower Guard Books

Welcome to the online home of work created by Andi Dawson. Here you’ll find a world of colour and imagination, where cute characters fill the page and show off the wonderful diversity of everyday life.

Andi’s illustrations are carefully created to engage even the youngest viewer . Her writing focuses on friendship, problem solving and fun and the majority of her books are written in rhyme to encourage a love of language and promote early reading for pleasure.

Part One

For a while now Andi has been creating things other than books…

Quirky cards

“My quirky cards came about after my mom went into hospital in 2022 and I couldn’t find a funny, but still cute, card to give her to wish her a speedy recover. As I was driving to the hospital one night the pun ‘get well spoon’ came to mind and as soon as I got home I found a free stock image of a silver spoon, saved it to my phone and edited it in my Sketchbook drawing app.

I added human-like features, arms, a nose, a smile and then over-sized eyes. I completed the card with a sunflower and some grapes, printed it off and then pondered what was missing. I thought it would look even better with googly eyes to make it stand out from being just an ordinary card with a pun.

However, as an eco-friendly creator I really didn’t want to use plastic googly eyes and then I hit on the idea of using the sugar eyes I’d seen people decorate cupcakes with…and hey presto, my first fully recyclable quirky card was complete.

I now have quite a large range of quirky cards and I’m always open to coming up with new ones when people ask me for specific celebrations that I don’t have a card for.” ~ Andi Dawson

You can view a few of Andi’s cards below and if you like the look of what you see you can click the name of each card to head to the FGB Etsy Shop.

At just £2.25 each, which is way cheaper than cards you might find on sites that rhyme with Noondig or Glunky Fidgeon they’re not only a bargain but are also unique, as they are handmade in the FGB Studio and created on demand, rather than being mass produced.

Artwork

Andi also has an artist’s cap which she wears when the mood takes her and creates both traditionally, using watercolour and acrylics, and digitally. Check out some of her artwork below.

Whilst most of Andi’s artwork is created because she often ‘just needs to do something’, some pieces are made to order and commissions are taken. Get in touch if you’d like a one-off piece producing.
