In October 2020, Ruff’s Guide to Endangered Animals launched. This non fiction book, aimed at primary aged children, details a top ten of critically endangered animals, giving information on where they are in the world, how many are left and what people and organisations are already doing to save them from extinction.
The colourful illustrations, showing Ruff with the animals, help to capture the readers attention and with page after page of advice about how we can all change our lives to help save theirs, I feel that this book is my most important to date.

After releasing the book I had the pleasure of delivering a virtual workshop for the East Riding Festival of Words, all about how Ruff was going to change the world. Ordinarily, I would have then gone around schools, libraries and other venues introducing children to Ruff and the animals in the book, but with Covid-19 being rife and lockdowns happening left, right and centre this didn’t happen.
Ruff’s Guide to Endangered Animals got a little bit media of attention, was picked up by East Riding Libraries and sold a good amount of copies, but it is now time to try and get it to a wider audience.
So this leads me to the point of all this…
I would like to get this book into as many schools as possible, to educate primary school children now in order for them to save endangered animals in the future. I need your help to do this, by simply letting me know if you think your school would be interested.
I had thought of setting up a Crowdfunding appeal, but to be honest, in the current climate with so many awful things happening in the world, it just feels like it wouldn’t be appropriate.
All I need is for you to let me know if you think your school would like a copy, either on loan or to buy and I will do the rest. I am even happy to send a virtual copy in PDF form to your school and can provide plenty of free resources to go with the book, to enable teachers to create a lesson plan around the book.
I really feel in my bones that it should be in the hands of as many children as possible and the feedback I’ve had from people who have read this book so far, is that it is a book that teaches all ages about the importance of doing something now before it’s too late.
So, that’s it really. If you think your school would be interested, please get in touch via the comments below or by emailing flowerguardsbooks@flowerguardbooks
